LAKEWOOD LEGENDS – 2019 TSL CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to the Lakewood Legends, the 2019 Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League Champions.

The sun was shining at Perry Field on the beautiful campus of Virginia Wesleyan University as the 2019 League Championship Game got underway. The Norfolk Redbirds and the Lakewood Legends used their bats to settle the 2019 Championship, combining to score 36 runs in the 9 inning contest, with the Lakewood Legends coming out on top, claiming their first Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League Championship.

Congratulations Lakewood Legends, you are our 2019 Champions. The Legends are managed by Head Coach Roberto Vaz and Assistant Coach Cody Ortego.

We would also like to congratulate the Norfolk Redbirds with their second place finish, and an overall great summer season. The Redbirds are managed by Head Coach Jon Gold and Assistant Coaches Alec Bryant and Chase Stewart.

Lakewood Legends Wrangles Victory From Norfolk Redbirds After Back-And-Forth Game

Lakewood Legends and Norfolk Redbirds traded blows on Friday in a back-and-forth affair, with Lakewood Legends eventually claiming a 19-17 victory. The game was tied at nine with Lakewood Legends batting in the bottom of the fourth when Evan Keller singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Lakewood Legends was boosted by Keller who went 6-for-6 at the plate. Keller homered in the first, singled in the second, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, singled in the seventh, and singled in the eighth.

Lakewood Legends opened up an early lead in the second inning when.

Lakewood Legends took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Cody Sandlin grounded out, scoring one run.

Lakewood Legends scored five runs in the seventh inning. Drew Hill had an RBI single in the inning to lead the run scoring.

Norfolk Redbirds scored three runs in the eighth inning. Norfolk Redbirds scored its runs on a error by Christopher Mills.

Azriel Davidson was credited with the victory for Lakewood Legends. He went three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out two. A number of pitchers entered the game as relief, with Kyle McShaffryDylan SchumacherLogan Dunbar, and Nytorious Cooler all securing outs and ultimately the victory.

Justin Durnil took the loss for Norfolk Redbirds. He allowed three hits and two runs over one and one-third innings, striking out one.

Ethan Buckley started the game for Norfolk Redbirds. He went one inning, allowing five runs on four hits and striking out one Cody Ray started the game for Lakewood Legends. He went two and a third innings, allowing seven runs on three hits and striking out two

Lakewood Legends launched one home run on the day. Keller had a long ball in the first inning.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME FRIDAY 7/5 AT 10:00AM

Friday’s 2019 Harry Postove Memorial Championship Game will feature the Norfolk Redbirds, led by manager Jon Gold and the Lakewood Legends, led by manager Roberto Vaz.

The game will be played at Perry Field on the beautiful campus of Virginia Wesleyan University, start time is set for 10:00am.

Admission is free and open to the public. Parking is free, and coolers ARE allowed, no glass bottles please.

Day 3 of the 2019 Harry Postove Memorial Championship Tournament was impacted by weather, and despite not being able to get all of our games in, we were able to decide the winner of Bracket B, sending the Lakewood Legends into tomorrow’s Championship Game vs the Norfolk Redbirds.

Portsmouth Yardbirds Clings To Victory As Virginia Beach Shredders Nearly Erases 4-Run Deficit

Despite seeing its four-run lead whittled down by the end, Portsmouth Yardbirds still held off Virginia Beach Shredders for a 5-4 victory on Thursday. Virginia Beach Shredders scored three runs in the failed comeback on a double by Kevin Worrell and a single by Daniel Lilja.

Portsmouth Yardbirds earned the victory despite allowing Virginia Beach Shredders to score three runs in the seventh inning. Virginia Beach Shredders‘s big inning was driven by a single by Lilja and a double by Worrell.

Portsmouth Yardbirds fired up the offense in the second inning. Liam Geib‘s sac fly scored one run for Portsmouth Yardbirds.

Robert McDaniel took the win for Portsmouth Yardbirds. He surrendered one run on four hits over six innings, striking out three and walking zero. Brook Hamilton and Noah Floyd entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Hamilton recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Portsmouth Yardbirds.

William VanSickle took the loss for Virginia Beach Shredders. He lasted five innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three.

Christopher Berry led Portsmouth Yardbirds with two hits in four at bats.

Virginia Beach Shredders tallied eight hits on the day. Nilu Chirchirillo and Lilja each managed multiple hits for Virginia Beach Shredders.

Day 2 of the 2019 Harry Postove Memorial Championship Tournament continued to provide great collegiate summer league baseball for our area’s fans who braved the heat.

Championship Game taking shape as Norfolk Redbirds lock in their spot.

Following a two day sweep by the Norfolk Redbirds, defeating the Portsmouth Yardbirds in game 1, and the Virginia Beach Shredders in game 2, the Norfolk Redbirds have advanced to the Championship Game of out Bracket A, and will face the winner of Bracket B in the Championship Game.

The Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League’s 2019 Championship game is scheduled for Friday, July 5th at Virginia Wesleyan University’s Perry Field. Start time is 1:00pm.

Virginia Beach Shredders Falls To Norfolk Redbirds After Ninth Inning Score

Wednesday’s game against Norfolk Redbirds was a heartbreaker for Virginia Beach Shredders, as they lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat. The game was tied at one with Norfolk Redbirdsbatting in the top of the ninth when Christian Szablewski hit a solo homer.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Norfolk Redbirds pitchers struck out 13, while Virginia Beach Shredders sat down seven.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Virginia Beach Shredders tied things up at one. Nick Mackedon singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Maxwell Denny was the winning pitcher for Norfolk Redbirds. He lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out nine. Justin Durnil and Hayden Olson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Durnil recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Norfolk Redbirds.

Logan Simmons took the loss for Virginia Beach Shredders. He went nine innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Mackedon went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Virginia Beach Shredders in hits.

Norfolk Redbirds totaled eight hits. Carlo ZorolaSzablewski, and Ben Berger all had multiple hits for Norfolk RedbirdsNorfolk Redbirds was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Darren McKeown made the most plays with nine.

Day one of play in the round robin portion of the 2019 Harry Postove Memorial Championship Tournament got underway today at Virginia Wesleyan University and Lakewood Park.

Greenbrier Knights Outdone By Outer Banks Daredevils, 7-5

Outer Banks Daredevils got things moving in the second inning. Hunter McKown singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Greenbrier Knights evened things up at two in the bottom of the third inning. Scott McDonoughdrove in one when he doubled.

Outer Banks Daredevils pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Hunter Gregory drew a walk, scoring one run.

Greenbrier Knights tallied three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Ricky Sisto and a fielder’s choice by Brandon Clark.

Matthew Holler took the win for Outer Banks Daredevils. He surrendered five runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out nine. Jackson Sanchez threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Sanchez recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Outer Banks Daredevils.

Joshua King took the loss for Greenbrier Knights. He went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out seven.

Outer Banks Daredevils hit two home runs on the day. Gregory went deep in the eighth inning. Cody Schneider had a dinger in the sixth inning.

Greenbrier Knights had 11 hits in the game. Stefan LescoZack Will, and Tredell Blow each had multiple hits for Greenbrier KnightsLesco went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead Greenbrier Knightsin hits.
