Greenbrier Knights wasn’t able to come back from the big hole it dug itself into against Tidewater Drillers, and Greenbrier Knights lost 3-2 to Tidewater Drillers after falling behind by two runs in the second inning at Norfolk State University’s Marty Miller Field.
Greenbrier Knights scored on a groundout by Spencer Willis (Virginia Wesleyan College) in the third inning and an error in the eighth inning. Despite its efforts, Greenbrier Knights couldn’t get over the hump.
Jack Jett (Old Dominion U) shut down Greenbrier Knights while he was on the mound. Greenbrier Knights managed just two hits off of Jett, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Jack Maccagnan (Randolph Macon College) got the win for Tidewater Drillers. He allowed one run over five innings. Maccagnan struck out four, walked none and gave up five hits.
Trey Celata (Hampden-Sydney College) was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
Tidewater Drillers closer Matthew Roth (Radford U) put away the final four outs to record the save.
The lead stayed with Tidewater Drillers after the second, when it scored two runs on a two-run single by Austin Henry (Christopher Newport U).
The start time for the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League game between the Tidewater Drillers and the Greenbrier Knights at Norfolk State University’s Marty Miller Field has been been changed to 3:00pm.
Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) collected three hits as the Outer Banks Daredevils took home a 7-2 victory over the Greenbrier Knights at TowneBank OBX Park on Thursday.
Chance DuCharme (Francis Marion U) struck out five, paving the way for a Daredevils win. The Daredevils’ pitcher tossed five innings of shutout ball and allowed only four hits, picking up the win.
Spenser Willis (Virginia Wesleyan College) took the loss for the Knights. going six innings, walking one, striking out six, and allowing five runs. But also helped his own cause, going 2 – 5 at the plate, and TJ Wynkoop (Lynchburg College) went 2 – 4.
Outer Banks Daredevils never trailed after Demario Brown (Urbanna U), who reached base with a single, scored on a fielding error following a Brian Remaley (Anne Arundel CC) single.
The Daredevils tacked on another four runs in the fourth. Adam Whitacre (Radford U) opened the scoring in the frame after drawing a lead off walk, and was joined crossing the plate that inning by Brent West (Urbanna U), Demario Brown (Urbanna U) and Ryan Creps (Canisius College). The Daredevils hitters went on the offensive, and included singles by Brent West (Urbanna U), Jay Golliday (Campbell U) and Ryan Williams (Pitt CC).
The Daredevils defense was anchored by a strong performance by shortstop Demario Brown (Urbanna U) who had 11 put outs in 11 chances, included a great double play.
After eight lead changes in Monday’s game at TowneBank OBX Park, the Outer Banks Daredevils finally pulled out a 7-6 win over Greenbrier Knights.
The bottom of the first saw the Daredevils take an early lead, 1-0 when Jay Golliday (Campbell U) singled, stole second base, and then scored on an RBI single by Adam Whitacre (Radford U). The Daredevils tied the game in the third on an RBI single by Jack Downum (Chowan U) that scored Whitacre.
The lead was the Daredevils’ to lose after sixth inning. More runs came home on a sacrifice fly by Adam Whitacre (Radford U) an RBI single by Jay Golliday (Campbell U), and a bases loaded walk by Chris Childress (Urbanna U) that scored Ryan Creps (Canisius College) and gave the Daredevils the lead for good.
Adam Whitacre (Radford U) racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Outer Banks Daredevils. He singled in the first and third innings, and hit a sac fly in the sixth inning. Ryan Creps (Canisius College) went 2 – 5, with a double, a run scored and a stolen base. Chris Childress (Urbanna U) went 1 – 3, with a triple, a run scored and an RBI. Jay Golliday (Campbell U) went 2 – 5, with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Outer Banks Daredevils pitching and strong defense held off the Greenbrier Knights, as the Knights were unable to overcome a two-run sixth inning deficit. The Knights offense was powered by Chase Counts (Hampden-Sydney College) who went 2 for 6 with a run scored, and Garrett Marchand (James Madison U) who went 2 – 4 with a run scored. Jake Fletcher (Coastal Carolina U) went 1 – 4 with an RBI and Spencer Willis (Virginia Wesleyan College) went 1 – 5. The Knights scored one run in the seventh but was not able to take the lead back.
Bailey Lipscomb (Chowan U) started for the Daredevils, pitching 5 1/3 strong innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 6 Knights batters. Stephen Umphlett (NC Wesleyan College) recorded the win for the Daredevils. He tossed two-thirds of an inning of shutout ball. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered one hit. Eammon Collins (Tusculum College) threw the final 2 2/3 innings for the Daredevils, recording the save, giving up 1 hit, no runs and striking out 6.
Joshua King (Bethel College) got the start for the Knights, and went 5 innings, yielding 6 hits, 4 runs while striking out 7. Jeremy Blasiole (Lynchburg College) took the loss for the Knights. He lasted just three innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed three runs.

Jack Downum (Chowan U) racked up three RBIs on two hits for Outer Banks Daredevils. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the eighth inning. Brent West (Urbanna U) also had a two hit night, going 2 – 5 with and RBI and a run scored.
Nate Matheson (Old Dominion U) got the win for Tidewater Drillers. He allowed four runs over five innings, striking out six, walking four and only gave up three hits. Logan Harrellson (Christopher Newport U) threw two innings of shut out relief, giving up no hits, no runs and struck out 4 Daredevil batters.
Tidewater Drillers’ Harry Brown (James Madison U), Alex Abbey (Christopher Newport U) and Matthew Roth (Radford U) combined for five hits and six RBIs.
Stephen Umphlett (Lenior CC) was charged with the loss. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs. Daredevils starter Colby Rudis (Frederick CC) threw well in a no decision, striking out 4.
The top of the first saw the Tidewater Drillers take an early lead, 2-0, as Matthew Roth (Radford U) homered, scoring Alex Abbey (Christopher Newport U)after a single by Abbey got things started.
The Outer Banks Daredevils quickly matched the Drillers’ strong inning with a three-run inning of its own in the first. The Daredevils scored three on a hit batsmen, a line drive single by Adam Whitacre (Radford U), a wild pitch and a two-run double by Jack Downum (Chowan U).
The Drillers stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs on a fielder’s choice and a groundout by Alex Abbey (Christopher Newport).
Two runs in the bottom of the eighth helped the Daredevils close its deficit to 9-6. An RBI single by Jack Downum (Chowan U) and an RBI single by Damario Brown (Urbanna U) fueled the Daredevils’ comeback. And Ryan Creps (Canisius College) and Chris Childress (Urbanna U) both had hits and scored runs to help the Daredevils offense, but in the end, the Drillers 9 run night proved too much.

Thomas Chisam (California Univ of Penn) ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. Ryan Bennett (Virginia Military Institute) and Jeremy Blaisole (Lynchburg College) combined for 8 innings, allowing only 1 run, but the damage had been done.
The Knights offense was powered by TJ Wynkoop (Lynchburg College) , going 2 – 3, with an RBI; and Dominick Claxton (High Point U) went 1 – 2 and scored a run.

Chris Childerss (Urbanna U) went 1 – 3, including a double, with an RBI and a run scored; Adam Whitacre (Radford U) went 1 – 3, with 2 RBI and a run scored; and Damario Brown (Urbanna U) went 1 – 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
In the final game of inter league play between the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League and the Virginia Beach Collegiate Baseball League, the Outer Banks Daredevils beat the Portsmouth Sea Monsters on Monday night 10-3 at TowneBank OBX Park.
The Daredevils scored four runs in the first on bases loaded RBI walks by Adam Whitacre (Radford U), Brent West (Urbanna U), and Damario Brown (Urbanna U), and a Brian Remaley (Anne Arundel CC) RBI hit by pitch.
Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) led the Daredevils’ offensive threat, going 3 – 4, with 2 RBI. Adam Whitacre (Radford U) was 1 – 3, with a double, an RBI and 2 runs scored, and Brent West (Urbanna U) went 1 – 4 with an RBI double. Ryan Creps (Canisius College) got on base three times in the game, scored three runs and tripled in the seventh inning.
Bailey Lipscomb (Chowan U) got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He allowed one run over five innings, no earned, struck out four, walked one and gave up two hits.
Terrance Pinkston (Norfolk State U) couldn’t get it done on the mound for the Sea Monsters, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked five, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
After leaving the mound, TerrancePinkston (Norfolk State U) went on to play left field, where he made a double saving diving catch in the gap, and a couple of strong throws to cut down base runners, and went 1 – 4 at the plate, scoring a run.
AJ Hunt (North Carolina A & T) sparked the Sea Monsters offense with his 1 – 2 night at the plate, with 2 walks and 2 runs scored.
The Daredevils piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A passed ball scored Brian Remaley (Anne Arundel CC) to get the Daredevils on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Ryan Williams’s (Pitt CC) RBI single, scoring Kyle Vidano (Averett U). The Daredevils increased its lead with two runs in the seventh. A single by Jay Golliday (Campbell U)ignited the offense,, bringing home Ryan Creps (Canisius College), followed up by another Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) RBI single, plating Golliday.
