June 8, 2016 – Norfolk, VA
After back to back rain outs in the Outer Banks, the 2016 season of the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League finally kicked off tonight at Marty Miller Field, on the beautiful campus of Norfolk State University. The Norfolk Bluefish came across town to take on our Greenbrier Knights in what turned out to be the league opener, and the weather was perfect for baseball. The Knights got out to an early lead, but the Bluefish fought back, tying it up, and taking a lead, before the Knights came roaring back to put it away for good. There were outstanding defensive play, which included the Bluefish turning the first triple play of the season, as well as other spectacular defensive gems by both teams. Chase Counts (Knights / Hampden-Sydney College) was the Player of the Game, going 3 -4, and driving in 3 runs, Trey Celata (Knights / Hampden-Sydney College) picked up the win, and Thomas Chisam (Knights / California Univ. of Pennsylvania) earned the save.
The Tidewater Summer League will be back in action tomorrow night with two games on tap. At Norfolk State University, the Suffolk Fightin Crabs will take on the Tidewater Drillers, start time is 6:00pm; and at TowneBank OBX Park, the Portsmouth Sea Monsters will take on the Outer Banks Daredevils, start time is 7:05pm. Come out and enjoy exciting collegiate summer league baseball.
