Tidewater Drillers White Victorious Greenbrier Knights Thanks To Fourth Inning Boost
Monday, July 12, 2021 – Hampton, VA
Tidewater Drillers White defeated Greenbrier Knights TSL21 8-2 on Monday thanks to five runs in the fourth inning. Jackson Hughes, Ryan Ballard, Dawson Guzik, and Aidan Cunningham each had RBIs in the big inning.
After Greenbrier Knights TSL21 scored one run in the top of the sixth, Tidewater Drillers White answered with one of their own. Greenbrier Knights TSL21 scored when Sam Slevin singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run. Tidewater Drillers White then answered when Guzik singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.
Tidewater Drillers White tallied five runs in the fourth inning. Tidewater Drillers White put the pressure on, lead by doubles by Ballard and Guzik, a single by Cunningham, and by Hughes.
Nick Mattfield got the win for Tidewater Drillers White. The righty went three innings, allowing one run on four hits, striking out five and walking zero. Matthew Sheppard and Tim Blackman entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Zach Updike took the loss for Greenbrier Knights TSL21. Updike surrendered two runs on five hits over three innings, striking out three and walking one.
Tidewater Drillers White totaled 11 hits in the game. Cunningham, Guzik, and Alex Fenney all collected multiple hits for Tidewater Drillers White. Fenney, Guzik, and Cunningham each collected two hits to lead Tidewater Drillers White.
