Bluefish upset Crabs 7 – 2 and advance to the 2017 League Championship Game
July 14, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Friday was a long day for Fightin’ Crabs, as it fell to Bluefish 7-2.
Bluefish took an early lead in the first inning. An error scored one run for Bluefish.
In the bottom of the third inning, Fightin’ Crabs tied things up at one. Fightin’ Crabs scored one run when Sam Graf tripled with two outs in the third inning.
Bluefish took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth there was an error, scoring one run and Daniel Haskell singled off of Noah Gear, driving in one run.
Trevor Lloyd earned the win for Bluefish. He threw six innings, giving up one run, five hits, and striking out four. Gear took the loss for Fightin’ Crabs. He went five and a third innings, giving up five runs, eight hits, striking out three, and walking one.
Fightin’ Crabs had seven hits in the game. Graf, John Tierney Jr., and Zachary Blaeser each collected multiple hits for Fightin’ Crabs. Tierney Jr. and Graf each drove in one run to lead Fightin’ Crabs.
Bluefish collected 14 hits. Delmarcus Talley, Haskell, MacMilan Shoenman, and Diggy Cimarolieach collected multiple hits for Bluefish. Bluefish didn’t commit a single error in the field. Cody McSwain had the most chances in the field with eight.
With the win, the Norfolk Bluefish advance to the TSL/VBCBL 2017 Championship game. (site and time is TBD) The loss will eliminate the Suffolk Fightin’ Crabs from the post season.
