Despite Fewer Hits, Norfolk Redbirds Beats Lakewood Legends

Lakewood Legends out-hit Norfolk Redbirds eight to seven, but it wasn’t enough in an 8-6 loss on Tuesday

Despite the loss, Lakewood Legends did collect eight hits in the high-scoring affair. Unfortunately, Norfolk Redbirds had seven hits on the way to victory.

Lakewood Legends captured the lead in the third inning. An error scored two runs for Lakewood Legends.

Norfolk Redbirds evened things up at one in the top of the second inning when Jordon Wrightsingled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

Norfolk Redbirds took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth inning. In the sixth Christian Szablewski doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Wright singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs for Norfolk Redbirds.

Lakewood Legends scored three runs in the third inning. The offensive onslaught came from a walk by Bren Faulk and an error on a ball put in play by Jared Jordan.

Maxwell Denny led things off on the mound for Norfolk Redbirds. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and four runs while striking out two. Marco Quintero recorded the last out to earn the save for Norfolk Redbirds.

Colin Ottofaro was on the hill for Lakewood Legends. He allowed four hits and four runs over five innings, striking out one. Dylan Schumacher and Samuel Smith entered the game as relief, throwing two and two-thirds innings and one and one-third innings respectively.

Lakewood Legends smacked one home run on the day. Austin Kirkpatrick had a long ball in the first inning.

Kyle McShaffry went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Lakewood Legends in hits.

Wright led Norfolk Redbirds with two hits in three at bats.
