Portsmouth Yardbirds Clinches Lead In Sixth Inning For Victory Over Virginia Beach Shredders

Portsmouth Yardbirds nabbed the lead late in the game in a 7-6 victory over Virginia Beach Shredders on Friday. Portsmouth Yardbirds was down 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Christopher Berry homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Portsmouth Yardbirds earned the victory despite allowing Virginia Beach Shredders to score five runs in the fourth inning. Virginia Beach Shredders‘s big inning was driven by a walk by Nick Mackedon, a triple by Maddux Hoaglund, a sac fly by Matthew Coutts, and an error on a ball put in play by Josh Gray.

Portsmouth Yardbirds opened up an early lead in the second inning when Joe Gross laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring two runs.

In the top of the fourth inning, Virginia Beach Shredders tied things up at five when Mackedondrew a walk, scoring one run.

Portsmouth Yardbirds took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning.

Brook Hamilton pitched Portsmouth Yardbirds to victory. He went two and a third innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out two. Justice Page threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Page recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Portsmouth Yardbirds.

Logan Sizemore took the loss for Virginia Beach Shredders. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out one and walking zero.

Talmon Hubbard started the game for Portsmouth Yardbirds. He went three and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out five Mason Brown started the game for Virginia Beach Shredders. He allowed two hits and five runs over three innings, striking out two
