Day 1 Tournament Results

Day one of play in the round robin portion of the 2019 Harry Postove Memorial Championship Tournament got underway today at Virginia Wesleyan University and Lakewood Park.

Division A Results:

Greenbrier Knights Outdone By Outer Banks Daredevils, 7-5

Outer Banks Daredevils got things moving in the second inning. Hunter McKown singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

Greenbrier Knights evened things up at two in the bottom of the third inning. Scott McDonoughdrove in one when he doubled.

Outer Banks Daredevils pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Hunter Gregory drew a walk, scoring one run.

Greenbrier Knights tallied three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Ricky Sisto and a fielder’s choice by Brandon Clark.

Matthew Holler took the win for Outer Banks Daredevils. He surrendered five runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out nine. Jackson Sanchez threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Sanchez recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Outer Banks Daredevils.

Joshua King took the loss for Greenbrier Knights. He went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out seven.

Outer Banks Daredevils hit two home runs on the day. Gregory went deep in the eighth inning. Cody Schneider had a dinger in the sixth inning.

Early Lead For Virginia Beach Shredders Seals Fate For Virginia Blasters

Virginia Blasters fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 14-3 loss to Virginia Beach Shredders on Tuesday. Virginia Beach Shredders scored on a sacrifice fly by Adrian Ty Andrews, a single by William VanSickle, and a passed ball during Kevin Worrell‘s at bat in the second inning.

The Virginia Blasters struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Virginia Beach Shredders, giving up 14 runs.

Virginia Beach Shredders fired up the offense in the second inning, when Andrews‘s sac fly scored one run for Virginia Beach Shredders.

Virginia Blasters put up three runs in the fifth inning. Virginia Blasters scored its runs on a sacrifice fly by Chris Guiles.

Virginia Beach Shredders scored nine runs in the fifth inning. The big inning for Virginia Beach Shredders came thanks to singles by Daniel LiljaKevin Wegielnik, and Andrews, a walk by VanSickle, a groundout by Worrell, and an error on a ball put in play by Lilja.

Nick Mackedon was credited with the victory for Virginia Beach Shredders. He surrendered three runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one.Logan Sizemore threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Sizemore recorded the last seven outs to earn the save for Virginia Beach Shredders.

Nicolas Graziano took the loss for Virginia Blasters. He went four and a third innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out three.

Portsmouth Yardbirds Drops Game To Norfolk Redbirds After Late Score

Portsmouth Yardbirds lost the lead late in a 15-11 defeat to Norfolk Redbirds on Tuesday.Norfolk Redbirds was down 10-9 in the top of the eighth inning when Jacob Ford homered on a 3-2 count, scoring three runs.

Portsmouth Yardbirds collected 13 hits and Norfolk Redbirds had 17 in the high-scoring affair.

Norfolk Redbirds got things moving in the first inning, when Nicholas Hussey singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.

After Norfolk Redbirds scored one run in the top of the second, Portsmouth Yardbirds answered with one of their own. Norfolk Redbirds scored when Christian Szablewski hit a solo homer.Portsmouth Yardbirds then answered when Jalin McMillan‘s sac fly scored one run for Portsmouth Yardbirds.

Portsmouth Yardbirds put up three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught by Portsmouth Yardbirds was led by Joe GrossDaniel Qin, and Cam Wallace, all driving in runs in the inning.

Norfolk Redbirds scored five runs in the third inning. Darren McKeownSzablewski, and Peter Stauber each had RBIs in the frame.

Tyrin Everette was the winning pitcher for Norfolk Redbirds. He went one and one-third innings, allowing one run on three hits and walking one. Davis GuroskyChristian Maloney, and Justin Durnil all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Robert McDaniel took the loss for Portsmouth Yardbirds. He surrendered four runs on four hits over two and a third innings.

Luke Verga started the game for Portsmouth Yardbirds. He surrendered eight runs on eight hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out two Dylan Francoeur started the game for Norfolk Redbirds. He allowed four hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three

Lakewood Legends’s Early Lead Over Suffolk Voyagers Sets Stage For Victory

An early lead helped Lakewood Legends defeat Suffolk Voyagers 10-4 on Tuesday. Lakewood Legends scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Hill in the first inning, a single by Bren Faulk in the second inning, a double by Austin Kirkpatrick in the second inning, and a sacrifice fly by Tristan Welch in the second inning.

Lakewood Legends pulled away for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Faulk singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs, Kirkpatrick doubled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs, and Welch‘s sac fly scored one run for Lakewood Legends.

Donald Arceneaux was the winning pitcher for Lakewood Legends. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out seven. Faulk and Azriel Davidson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Nick Rinaldi toed the rubber for Suffolk Voyagers. He went two innings, allowing six runs on three hits. #13Shawn McFeggan, and Steven Adamson each contributed in relief for Suffolk Voyagers.

Evan Keller went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Lakewood Legends in hits.
