Day 2 of the 2019 Harry Postove Memorial Championship Tournament continued to provide great collegiate summer league baseball for our area’s fans who braved the heat.

Division A Results:

Championship Game taking shape as Norfolk Redbirds lock in their spot.

Following a two day sweep by the Norfolk Redbirds, defeating the Portsmouth Yardbirds in game 1, and the Virginia Beach Shredders in game 2, the Norfolk Redbirds have advanced to the Championship Game of out Bracket A, and will face the winner of Bracket B in the Championship Game.

The Tidewater Collegiate Summer Baseball League’s 2019 Championship game is scheduled for Friday, July 5th at Virginia Wesleyan University’s Perry Field. Start time is 1:00pm.

Virginia Beach Shredders Falls To Norfolk Redbirds After Ninth Inning Score

Wednesday’s game against Norfolk Redbirds was a heartbreaker for Virginia Beach Shredders, as they lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat. The game was tied at one with Norfolk Redbirdsbatting in the top of the ninth when Christian Szablewski hit a solo homer.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Norfolk Redbirds pitchers struck out 13, while Virginia Beach Shredders sat down seven.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Virginia Beach Shredders tied things up at one. Nick Mackedon singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Maxwell Denny was the winning pitcher for Norfolk Redbirds. He lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and zero runs while striking out nine. Justin Durnil and Hayden Olson entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Durnil recorded the last five outs to earn the save for Norfolk Redbirds.

Logan Simmons took the loss for Virginia Beach Shredders. He went nine innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking one.

Mackedon went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Virginia Beach Shredders in hits.

Norfolk Redbirds totaled eight hits. Carlo ZorolaSzablewski, and Ben Berger all had multiple hits for Norfolk RedbirdsNorfolk Redbirds was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Darren McKeown made the most plays with nine.

Suffolk Voyagers Overcomes Outer Banks Daredevils In Face Of Early 3-Run Inning

Suffolk Voyagers managed through a push by Outer Banks Daredevils in the eighth inning where Suffolk Voyagers coughed up three runs, but Suffolk Voyagers still won 7-4 on Wednesday. The big inning for Outer Banks Daredevils came thanks to a triple by Dominick Claxton and a single by Hunter Gregory.

Suffolk Voyagers got on the board in the first inning when Hunter McMillin singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Suffolk Voyagers scored three runs in the second inning. Suffolk Voyagers big bats were led by Jimmy Griffin and McMillin, all driving in runs in the inning.

Hyeon-Ho Cho pitched Suffolk Voyagers to victory. He went seven and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits and striking out seven. Gage Riddick threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Riddick recorded the last four outs to earn the save for Suffolk Voyagers.

Cole Taylor took the loss for Outer Banks Daredevils. He went three innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, striking out two and walking zero.

Suffolk Voyagers totaled 13 hits in the game. Alex MillerGriffinMatthew StaelgraeveRiddick, and McMillin each racked up multiple hits for Suffolk VoyagersMiller went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Suffolk Voyagers in hits.

Two Lakewood Legends Pitchers Team Up In Shutout Victory Against Greenbrier Knights

Lakewood Legends defeated Greenbrier Knights 15-0 on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Hyeonsang Cho struck out Ryan Boyce to finish off the game.

Lakewood Legends secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the first inning. Austin KirkpatrickTristan WelchBo GonzalesJared JordanBren Faulk, and Evan Keller all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Lakewood Legends got things moving in the first inning, when Kirkpatrick singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

One bright spot for Greenbrier Knights was a single by Ricky Sisto in the second inning.

Colin Ottofaro led things off on the hill for Lakewood Legends. He surrendered zero runs on two hits over eight innings, striking out two.

Brent Kline toed the rubber for Greenbrier Knights. He allowed six hits and eight runs over one inning. #1Jacob Crumbly, and Kevin Restin each contributed in relief for Greenbrier Knights.

Guiles Gets Four Hits As Portsmouth Yardbirds Beats Virginia Blasters

Chris Guiles collected four hits, but Virginia Blasters fell to Portsmouth Yardbirds 13-9 on Wednesday. Guiles singled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fifth, and singled in the ninth.

Virginia Blasters lost despite out-hitting Portsmouth Yardbirds 12 to nine.

Virginia Blasters took an early lead in the first inning. Sean Lang drove in two when he singled.

In the bottom of the third inning, Virginia Blasters tied things up at five. An error scored two runs for Virginia Blasters.

Portsmouth Yardbirds took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Jalin McMillan singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.

Portsmouth Yardbirds scored four runs in the second inning. Portsmouth Yardbirds‘s big inning was driven by walks by Joe Gross and McMillan and a single by Daniel Qin.

Justice Page was the winning pitcher for Portsmouth Yardbirds. He allowed seven hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out two. Noah FloydTalmon Hubbard, and Christopher Lansdowne all put in work in relief out of the bullpen, steering their team towards the victory.

Keanu Walkush took the loss for Virginia Blasters. He allowed four hits and seven runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Virginia Blasters racked up 12 hits in the game. GuilesShane SteinardPatrick Blackall, and Jamal Bullard each racked up multiple hits for Virginia BlastersGuiles led Virginia Blasters with four hits in four at bats. Virginia Blasters stole nine bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Guiles led the way with five.
