Pelicans Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Suns
June 15, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Pelicans and Suns traded the lead back-and-forth on Thursday, but eventually Pelicans prevailed 5-4. Pelicans took the lead for good in the eighth inning. The game was tied at four with Pelicans batting in the bottom of the eighth when Pat Downey doubled off of Eric O’Brien, driving in one run.
Suns took an early lead in the first inning. Brad Pearson’s sac fly scored one run for Suns.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Pelicans tied things up at four. Pelicans scored one run when Josh Crummer singled with two outs in the seventh inning.
Ean Walda earned the win for Pelicans. He went eight innings, surrendering four runs, eight hits, and striking out eight. Joe Klingensmith recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Pelicans. Eric O’Brien took the loss for Suns. He threw seven and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs, 13 hits, striking out eight, and walking one.
Pelicans had 13 hits in the game. Christopher Iocca, Crummer, Klingensmith, and Justin Hayes each collected multiple hits for Pelicans. Iocca led Pelicans with three hits in three at bats.
Suns collected eight hits. Jarad Clevenger and Justin Bunting each collected multiple hits for Suns. Suns was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Pearson had the most chances in the field with nine.
