une 16, 2015 – Kill Devil Hills, NC
Entering fresh off an 8-4 Monday night (6/15) loss to the Tidewater Drillers that ended their perfect 4-0 start to the season, the Outer Banks Daredevils came out aggressive less than 24 hours later as they jumped on the Greenbrier Knights early and often in the first three frames of play.
After posting two runs in the home half of the first inning to answer Greenbrier’s opening solo score, Outer Banks’ Chris Childress delivered a three-RBI shot to left field in the bottom of the second that also brought home Chase James and Logan Quimuyog.
The 5-1 advantage after three full frames of action afforded the Daredevils some breathing room that lasted until the sixth inning when Greenbrier’s Robbie Lathrop scored for the Knights off an Outer Banks wild pitch that narrowed the contest to a four-run affair (6-2).
The lead for the ‘Devils would only be trimmed by two the rest of the way as Outer Banks coasted to a 9-4 victory to improve to 5-1 on the year while dropping Greenbrier to 0-3.
LHP Colton Harlow (1-0, 2.07 ERA) picked up the win for the Daredevils as he threw six strikeouts while allowing just three hits and one run in four near-perfect innings of mound work.
Play for the Daredevils resumes on Thursday night (6/18) at PNC Park as Outer Banks hosts the Mid Atlantic Pirates (0-1). Gates open at 6 PM with the first pitch to follow at 7:05 PM.
