Seagulls Jumps Out To Early Lead In Victory Over Fightin’ Crabs
July 8, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Seagulls grabbed an early lead on its way to a 15-7 victory over Fightin’ Crabs on Saturday.Seagulls scored on a single by Derrek Marshall Jr., an error, a groundout by Garrison Vick, and a single by Elijah Ervin in the second inning.
Fightin’ Crabs scored five runs in the sixth inning, but Seagulls still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Fightin’ Crabs came thanks to a single by Evan Hirschbaum, a double by Zachary Blaeser, and a triple by Ben MacDonald.
Fightin’ Crabs captured the lead in the second inning. MacDonald’s sac fly scored one run for Fightin’ Crabs.
Seagulls took the lead for good with four runs in the second inning. In the second Derrek Marshall Jr. singled off of Trevor Smith, driving in one run, there was an error, scoring one run, Garrison Vick grounded out, scoring one run, and Elijah Ervin singled off of Smith, driving in one run.
Seagulls scored five runs in the fifth inning. The big inning was thanks to a walk by Jonathan Santiago, a single by Marshall Jr., and a double by Shane Gipson.
Fightin’ Crabs scored five runs in the sixth inning. Fightin’ Crabs’s big inning was driven by a single by Hirschbaum, a double by Blaeser, and a triple by MacDonald.
Casey Lewandoski earned the win for Seagulls. He threw five and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs, and two hits. Smith took the loss for Fightin’ Crabs. He tossed two and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs, five hits, and striking out three.
Seagulls collected 16 hits. Santiago, Grant Thompson, Marshall Jr., Ervin, and Gipson each collected multiple hits for Seagulls. Santiago went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Seagulls in hits.Seagulls was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Marshall Jr. made the most plays with 14.
Fightin’ Crabs had eight hits in the game. Hirschbaum, John Tierney Jr., and Blaeser each collected multiple hits for Fightin’ Crabs. Blaeser went 2-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with four runs batted in.
