Bluefish Can’t Hold Up Against Hawks in game 1 of double header
June 16, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Friday was a long day for Bluefish, as it fell to Hawks 14-2.
Bluefish captured the lead in the first inning. Cody McSwain singled on a 1-1 count in the first inning, scoring one run.
Hawks took the lead for good with eight runs in the third inning. In the third there was an error, scoring one run, Richard De La Cruz singled off of John Barclay III, driving in one run, Wyatt Brock singled off of Barclay III, driving in two runs, Barclay III walked Tyler Dodson to drive in a run, Andrew Teixeira singled off of Barclay III, driving in one run, Cullen Stockley singled off of Barclay III, driving in one run, and Barclay III walked Andre Marchesseault to drive in a run.
Taylor Barker earned the win for Hawks. He went six innings, giving up one run, five hits, striking out six, and walking one. Barclay III took the loss for Bluefish. He threw two and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs, eight hits, and striking out three.
Ashton Knutson, Noah Herried, McSwain, Michael Rojas, and MacMilan Shoenman all had one hit to lead Bluefish.
Hawks collected 15 hits. Teixeira, De La Cruz, Stockley, Marchesseault, and Dodson each collected multiple hits for Hawks. Teixeira went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Hawks in hits. Hawks didn’t commit a single error in the field. Dodson had seven chances in the field, the most on the team.
