Join us Saturday for a great collegiate twin bill

Come out to Marty Miller Field, on the beautiful campus of Norfolk State University, this Saturday, June 11th for a great twin bill of collegiate summer baseball. These games are part of our inter league games with the VBCBL.

In game 1, the Suffolk Fightin Crabs will be taking on the Greenbrier Knights, game 1 will begin at 11:00am.

Tidewater Drillers shell the Fightin Crabs 15 – 5

June 9, 2016 – Norfolk, VA

At Marty Miller Field, on the beautiful campus of Norfolk State University, the Suffolk Fightin Crabs came across town to take on the Tidewater Drillers.  The Drillers came out swinging, posting 9 runs in the first, before cruising to a 15 – 5 victory.

Daredevils defeat Sea Monsters 9 – 8

June 9, 2016 – Kill Devil Hills, NC

Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Thursday as Outer Banks Daredevils outscored Portsmouth Sea Monsters 9-8 at beautiful TowneBank OBX Park.

The two teams combined for 20 hits in the game. The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to seven lead changes in the game.

The Outer Banks Daredevils took the lead in the seventh inning when Jay Golliday (Campbell Univ) crossed the plate, and held on for the win.

Outer Banks Daredevils was led by Ryan Creps’s hitting. Ryan Creps (Canisius College) went 4-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the third, fourth, sixth, and seventh innings.

Colby Rudis (Frederick CC) recorded the win for Outer Banks Daredevils. He tossed 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out five, walked none and surrendered two hits.

Corbin Townsend was charged with the loss. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked five, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

Portsmouth Sea Monsters jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second. The Sea Monsters’ threat began with a single by Angelo Hronis (Lock Haven Univ). Marques Lanier singled, bringing home Zack Clement (William Jessup Univ). Portsmouth Sea Monsters added more runs when Hronis scored on a walk by Givano Torres (Lock Haven Univ) and Lanier scored on an error.

After posting two runs in the third, Outer Banks Daredevils again scored two in the sixth. In the third, Outer Banks Daredevils scored on an RBI single by Chris Childress (Urbanna Univ), plating Ryan Creps (Canisius College).

The Outer Banks Daredevils answered Portsmouth Sea Monsters’ top inning with one run of its own in the fifth. The Outer Banks Daredevils scored on a wild pitch.

Outer Banks Daredevils tied the game in the sixth on a passed ball that scored Adam Whitacre (Radford Univ), who also made a great diving catch for the final out of the game.

2016 Season Finally Underway

June 8, 2016 – Norfolk, VA

After back to back rain outs in the Outer Banks, the 2016 season of the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League finally kicked off tonight at Marty Miller Field, on the beautiful campus of Norfolk State University. The Norfolk Bluefish came across town to take on our Greenbrier Knights in what turned out to be the league opener, and the weather was perfect for baseball. The Knights got out to an early lead, but the Bluefish fought back, tying it up, and taking a lead, before the Knights came roaring back to put it away for good. There were outstanding defensive play, which included the Bluefish turning the first triple play of the season, as well as other spectacular defensive gems by both teams. Chase Counts (Knights / Hampden-Sydney College) was the Player of the Game, going 3 -4, and driving in 3 runs, Trey Celata (Knights / Hampden-Sydney College) picked up the win, and Thomas Chisam (Knights / California Univ. of Pennsylvania) earned the save.

The Tidewater Summer League will be back in action tomorrow night with two games on tap. At Norfolk State University, the Suffolk Fightin Crabs will take on the Tidewater Drillers, start time is 6:00pm; and at TowneBank OBX Park, the Portsmouth Sea Monsters will take on the Outer Banks Daredevils, start time is 7:05pm. Come out and enjoy exciting collegiate summer league baseball.

2016 Season Opens to Rain

June 7, 2016 – Virginia Beach, VA

The 2016 season of the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League has gotten off to a wet start, with both the June 6th and June 7th contest getting rained out.  Our next game is scheduled for Wednesday, June 8th, between the Norfolk Bluefish and the Greenbrier Knights at Norfolk State University, start time is 6:00pm.

TSL reaches agreement with VBCBL for inter league games in 2016

The Tidewater Collegiate Summer League has announced that an agreement has been reached with the Virginia Beach Collegiate Baseball League to allow inter league play for the 2016 season.

In addition to the Tidewater Drillers, Greenbrier Knights and the Outer Banks Daredevils, the TSL is happy to welcome to our schedule the Virginia Beach Waves, Chesapeake Stars, Portsmouth Sea Monsters, Norfolk Bluefish and the Suffolk Fightin’ Crabs.

2016 Season Information

For the 2016 season, our teams will be playing approximately 30 games during the summer, with an All Star Game, Playoffs & League Championship Series. Teams will typically play three games per week, with one mid week game and two games during the weekend. This schedule allows players the opportunity to work part time jobs during the summer to help offset their expenses, while still competing in a quality summer wood bat league.

If you are a collegiate player, trying to improve your game and take it to the next level, you know there is no substitute for live games. Get in your work this summer playing against other collegiate players, with over 225 innings for pitchers and position players to work on your game, plus 75 – 100 at bats, facing quality collegiate pitching, with professional umpires and wood bats.

Kyle Majette wins TSL top pitcher honors & Robbie Depp is TSL top hitter

Tidewater Driller’s ace Kyle Majette (Old Dominion Univ) wins the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League’s 2015 Pedro Martinez Award, given to the league’s top pitcher each summer. Majette put up tremendous numbers this season, pitching 36 innings, giving up 11 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, with 15 walks, 54 strike outs and no hit batsmen, posting a 0.504 ERA and a 0.722 WHIP.

Greenbrier Knights first basemen Robbie Depp (Norfolk State Univ) wins the Tidewater Collegiate Summer League’s 2015 Ted Williams Award, given to the league’s top hitter each summer. Depp had a great year at the plate, posting a league best .415 batting average, with 53AB, 16R, 22H, 16RBI, 2DB, 2HR, 16BB, 10K.
