Pelicans Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Knights
June 27, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Pelicans took the lead for good in the second inning to capture a back-and-forth game from Knights by a 10-7 score on Tuesday. The game was tied at three with Pelicans batting in the bottom of the second when Justin Hayes tripled off of Jake Holland, driving in one run.
An early lead helped propel Pelicans to victory. Pelicans scored on a double by Justin Hayes in the first inning, a groundout by Josh Crummer in the first inning, a single by Austin Elledge in the second inning, a triple by Hayes in the second inning, and a passed ball in the second inning.
Knights captured the lead in the first inning. With two outs in the first inning Stephen Baughandrove in one run when he singled.
Pelicans took the lead for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second Elledge singled off of Jake Holland, driving in one run.
Knights scored three runs in the seventh inning. The big inning for Knights came thanks to a groundout by Christopher Harper and a single by Baughan.
Pelicans collected 13 hits. Elledge, Hayes, Santino Paris, and Tom Kelley each collected multiple hits for Pelicans. Hayes went 2-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with three runs batted in.
Baughan went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead Knights in hits.
