Crummer’s Walkoff Gives Pelicans Victory Over Hawks
June 23, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Pelicans defeated Hawks 7-6 on Friday thanks to a walk-off. The game was tied at six with Pelicans batting in the bottom of the ninth when Josh Crummer hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run.
Pelicans built a four-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Hawks’s charge. Hawks scored six runs in the failed comeback on a walk , a error, a double by Dalton Jackson, and a single by Andre Marchesseault.
Pelicans took an early lead in the second inning. Pat Downey singled on a 3-2 count in the second inning, scoring one run.
Pelicans knotted the game up at six in the bottom of the eighth inning. Austin Elledge drove in one when he singled in the eighth inning.
Hawks scored six runs in the eighth inning. Hawks’s big inning was driven by a walk , a error, a double by Jackson, and a single by Marchesseault.
Cody Burnham earned the win for Pelicans. He pitched one inning, giving up zero runs, two hits, striking out two, and walking one. Ben Mason took the loss for Hawks. He went one and one-third innings, surrendering three runs, five hits, striking out one, and walking zero.
Taylor Barker started the game for Hawks. He threw six innings, allowing four runs, eight hits, striking out four, and walking one. Samuel Wood started the game for Pelicans. He went eight innings, allowing six runs, five hits, and striking out seven.
Pelicans had 13 hits in the game. Harrison Sabo, Elledge, Tom Kelley, and Downey each collected multiple hits for Pelicans. Sabo led Pelicans with four hits in five at bats.
