Four Pitchers Team Up As Seagulls Shuts Out Suns
June 23, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Seagulls defeated Suns 7-0 on Friday as four pitchers combined to throw a shutout. John Wicksier induced a groundout from Jarad Clevenger to finish off the game.
An early lead helped propel Seagulls to victory. Seagulls scored on a single by Jonathan Santiago, a single by Elijah Ervin, a single by Andrew Poirier, and a single by Garrett Houston in the second inning.
Seagulls captured the lead in the second inning. Santiago singled on a 1-0 count in the second inning, scoring one run.
A single by Andrew Rodriguez in the second inning was a positive for Suns.
Casey Lewandoski earned the win for Seagulls. He pitched six innings, giving up zero runs, six hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Tyler Key threw one inning, as three relievers helped Seagulls finish off the victory.
Ben Marsico took the loss for Suns. He threw six innings, giving up five runs, nine hits, striking out seven, and walking one.
Seagulls collected 11 hits. Patrick Keohane and Santiago each collected multiple hits for Seagulls. Santiago and Keohane all had two hits to lead Seagulls.
Suns had six hits in the game. Rodriguez and Jarad Clevenger each collected multiple hits for Suns.
