4-Hit Day For McSwain Leads Bluefish Past Hawks
June 26, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Four hits from Cody McSwain helped lead Bluefish past Hawks 10-4 on Monday. McSwainhomered in the first, singled in the third, singled in the seventh, and singled in the eighth.
Hawks scored three runs in the second inning, but Bluefish still managed to pull out the victory. The big inning for Hawks came thanks to a groundout by Shane Davis and a single by Tyler Dodson.
Bluefish captured the lead in the first inning. Cody McSwain homered on a 3-2 count in the first inning, scoring two runs.
Bluefish took the lead for good with one run in the fifth inning.
Bluefish scored three runs in the seventh inning. Bluefish’s big inning was driven by a groundout by Daniel Haskell and a single by Chadler Young.
Hawks scored three runs in the second inning. Hawks’s big inning was driven by a groundout by Davis and a single by Dodson.
Landon Sewell earned the win for Bluefish. He threw five innings, allowing four runs, six hits, and striking out five. Alec Berry threw two innings, as two relievers helped Bluefish finish off the victory. Jake Ottinger took the loss for Hawks. He pitched four innings, allowing three runs, three hits, and striking out four.
Bluefish collected 14 hits. McSwain, Kevin Edgar, and Noah Herried each collected multiple hits for Bluefish. Bluefish didn’t commit a single error in the field. Edgar had the most chances in the field with nine.
Dodson went 1-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.
