Sea Monsters Can’t Hold Up Against Seagulls
June 29, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA.
Sea Monsters had trouble keeping up with Seagulls in a 7-2 loss on Thursday.
Sea Monsters captured the lead in the first inning. Joshua Nellis singled on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring one run.
Seagulls took the lead for good with six runs in the third inning. In the third Jordeyn Lewis tripled off of Glen Pizzanello, driving in one run, Andrew Poirier hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run, there was an error, scoring one run, Shane Gipson singled off of Pizzanello, driving in two runs, and Christopher Houle singled off of Pizzanello, driving in one run.
Connor Woods earned the win for Seagulls. He pitched five innings, giving up two runs, seven hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Tyler Key threw three innings, as two relievers helped Seagulls finish off the victory. Pizzanello took the loss for Sea Monsters. He went three innings, surrendering six runs, nine hits, striking out one, and walking zero.
Sea Monsters collected 12 hits. Antonio Leite Jr., Hector Mosquea, and William Oliver each collected multiple hits for Sea Monsters. Leite Jr. and Nellis each drove in one run to lead Sea Monsters.
Seagulls had 12 hits in the game. Lewis, Grant Thompson, Houle, and Gipson each collected multiple hits for Seagulls. Lewis went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Seagulls in hits. Seagulls didn’t commit a single error in the field. Derrek Marshall Jr. had 11 chances in the field, the most on the team.
