Waves Falls In Back-And-Forth Affair Against Fightin’ Crabs
July 11, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Waves and Fightin’ Crabs played a tight game, but Fightin’ Crabs pulled out the 13-9 victory on Tuesday. The game was tied at eight with Fightin’ Crabs batting in the top of the seventh when Kyle Kania singled off of Chandler Sulcer, driving in one run.
Waves lost despite out-hitting Fightin’ Crabs ten to nine.
Fightin’ Crabs took an early lead in the first inning. Evan Hirschbaum doubled on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring one run.
Waves scored four runs in the fourth inning. Waves scored on a error, a single by Chandler Sulcer, and a double by Brandon Kussmaul.
Musawenkosi Matiwane earned the win for Fightin’ Crabs. He pitched three innings, giving up four runs, four hits, and striking out one. Sulcer took the loss for Waves. He threw two and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs, four hits, and striking out two.
Brady Moore started the game for Fightin’ Crabs. He pitched three innings, surrendering four runs, and three hits. Brian Vieira started the game for Waves. He threw two innings, allowing one run, one hit, and walking one.
Home runs for Fightin’ Crabs came when Hirschbaum homered in the seventh inning and Joseph Holguin homered in the seventh inning.
Waves had ten hits in the game. Kevin Roberts, Kussmaul, and Sulcer each collected multiple hits for Waves. Kussmaul led Waves with three runs batted in. He went 2-for-4 on the day.
Fightin’ Crabs collected nine hits. John Tierney Jr. and Hirschbaum each collected multiple hits for Fightin’ Crabs.
The Suffolk Fightin’ Crabs finish the regular season in second place with an 18 – 8 record and the Virginia Beach Waves finish the regular seaon with a record of 9 – 16.
