Hawks advance to Elite 8
July 12, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA
Knights had trouble keeping up with Hawks in an 8-4 loss on Wednesday.
Hawks captured the lead in the first inning. Garrett Lyons drove in one when he singled in the first inning.
Hawks knotted the game up at two in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the second inning Cameron Reckling drove in one run when he singled.
Hawks took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In the third Dalton Jackson doubled off of Isaiah Junkins, driving in three runs, Shane Davis singled off of Junkins, driving in one run, and Tyler Dodson singled off of Junkins, driving in one run.
Jake Ottinger earned the win for Hawks. He tossed six and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, eight hits, and striking out eight. Duncan Newman threw one and one-third innings, as two relievers helped Hawks finish off the victory. Junkins took the loss for Knights. He went three innings, allowing seven runs, ten hits, and striking out one.
Knights collected ten hits. JR Polak, Chris Henderson, and Thomas Chisam each collected multiple hits for Knights. Chisam went 2-for-5 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.
Hawks had 13 hits in the game. Dodson, Lyons, and Jackson each collected multiple hits for Hawks. Jackson led Hawks with three runs batted in. He went 2-for-5 on the day.
The Tidewater Hawks advance to the Elite 8 round where they will face the #1 seed Sandbridge Seagulls in the 2pm game, Thursday at Virginia Wesleyan University.
