Hawks Almost Erases 6-Run Deficit In Loss To Waves

Waves built a six-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Hawks’s charge for a 9-8 victory on Friday. Hawks scored five runs in the failed comeback on a, a groundout by Conner Clark, a double by Garrett Lyons, and a single by Dalton Jackson.
An early lead helped propel Waves to victory. Waves scored on a single by Collin Porter in the first inning, a single by Brandon Kussmaul in the second inning, a stolen base in the second inning, and a single by Porter in the second inning.
Hawks captured the lead in the first inning. Garrett Lyons singled on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring two runs.
Waves took the lead for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Kussmaulsingled off of Ethan Santos, driving in two runs, a runner stole home, and Porter singled off of Santos, driving in one run.
Hawks scored five runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Hawks came thanks to a groundout by Conner Clark, a double by Lyons, and a single by Dalton Jackson.
Christian Rivera earned the win for Waves. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs, ten hits, and striking out four. Jacob Pilarski threw one inning, as two relievers helped Waves finish off the victory. Pilarski recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Waves. Santos took the loss for Hawks. He pitched two and a third innings, giving up five runs, six hits, and striking out one.
Liam Carr started the game for Hawks. He went three innings, surrendering four runs, six hits, striking out two, and walking zero.
Waves collected 12 hits. Jonathan Lindau, Declan O’Malley, and Porter each collected multiple hits for Waves. Porter, O’Malley, and Lindau all had two hits to lead Waves. Waves tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Kussmaul led the way with two. Waves was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. O’Malley had the most chances in the field with seven.
Hawks had 12 hits in the game. Lyons, Clark, and Tyler Dodson each collected multiple hits for Hawks.
