Chance DuCharme (Francis Marion) allowed just two runs on Monday at TowneBank OBX Park, but the Outer Banks Daredevils couldn’t get the offense going in a 3-1 defeat to Suffolk Fightin’ Crabs. DuCharme handled the Fightin Crabs’ lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. DuCharme allowed no earned runs, four hits and one walk over six innings.
Bailey Garfield (Catawba Valley CC) got the win for Suffolk Fightin Crabs. He allowed one run over 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six, walked seven and surrendered one hit. DuCharme took the loss for Outer Banks Daredevils.
The Crabs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second when James Dockery (Methodist U) singled. A stolen base then moved Dockery from first to second. Outer Banks Daredevils scored its only run of the game on a wild pitch in the second inning. The game was never in doubt after the third, as Suffolk Fightin Crabs scored one run on a sacrifice fly by Tommy Haas (U of Ark – Pine Bluff).
The Tidewater Drillers split their double header with the Chesapeake Suns today at Virginia Wesleyan College, losing game 1 by a final score of 2 – 6, but bouncing back in game 2 picking up a 4 – 0 victory.

The Greenbrier Knights swept the Virginia Beach Waves in a double header at Virginia Wesleyan College today, winning game one by a final score of 11 – 1, and winning the second game of the contest by a final score of 6 – 4.
In game one, Matt Polak (St. Andrews U) led the offense for the Knights, going 4 – 4 with 3 RBI. Ryan VanAssche (Randolph-Macon) picked up the win, yielding one hit, one run, with five striike outs.

In game two, six different Knights players got hits in route to a 6 – 4 victory, while Trey Celata (Hampden-Sydney) picked up the win for the Knights, and Thomas Chisam (Cal. Univ. of PA) earned the save.

Then, at 2:00pm, the Tidewater Drillers will be taking on the Chesapeake Suns in a double header, also at Virginia Wesleyan College.

The Greenbrier Knights took on the Virginia Beach Waves at Virginia Wesleyan College, losing by a final score of 13 – 3. The Knights offense was led by Matt Polak (St. Andrews) who went 2 – 3 with an RBI and Chase Counts (Hampden-Sydney) with his 2 – 4, 1 run scored. Jonathan Letchworth (Liberty U) took the loss for the Knights, going 3.1 innings, yielding 2 hits, 4 runs, 1 earned, with 4 walks and 2 stike outs.
The Waves offense was powered by Julian Gutierrez‘s (Millikin U) 2 – 4, 2 R, 1 RBI performance, Matt Carlin‘s (Tufts U) 2 – 4, 1 R night at the plate and Cole Clark‘s (Marian U) 2 – 4, 1 R contribution. Waves starting pitcher J. Pilarski earned the win, going 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 1 walk, and 3 strike outs.
A six-run explosion in the fifth inning carried the Outer Banks Daredevils to a 9-1 win over the Portsmouth Sea Monsters at TowneBank OBX Park on Tuesday. The Outer Banks Daredevils scored in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by Jay Golliday (Campbell Univ.), a two-run double by Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) a bases loaded walk, a fielder’s choice, and an error.
Ryan Williams (Pitt CC) racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Outer Banks Daredevils. Chance DuCharme ( Francis Marion Univ.) started for the Daredevils, going five innings, with seven strikeouts, one earned run on four hits and two walks.
Shawn Grieser (Va Wesleyan College) couldn’t get it done on the hill for Portsmouth Sea Monsters, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in 4 1/3 innings, walked five and struck out three. The Sea Monsters offense was led by Terrance Pinkston (Norfolk State Univ), who went 2 – 4 with a run scored, and Corbin Townsend also had a 2 – 4 night at the plate.
The Daredevils scored one run in the fourth on an RBI single by Brent West (Urbanna Univ), and added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, after Damario Brown (Urbanna Univ) started the inning with a double.
Chris Childress’s (Urbanna University) walk-off bases loaded walk off of Christian Rivera (Thomas Nelson CC) boosted the Outer Banks Daredevils to a 6-5 win over Chesapeake Suns in 10 innings at TowneBank OBX Park on Monday. Childress led the Outer Banks Daredevils’ offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the fifth inning.
Colby Rudis got the win for the Daredevils. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered no hits. Rivera took the loss for the Suns. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed one run.
Neither team scored until the fifth when the Daredevils got on the board. The Daredevils got on the board thanks to a two-run double by Damario Brown (Urbanna University), who also made a couple of big league defensive plays at short, and an RBI double by Eamonn Collins (Tusculum College), who also played a great defensive game at third.
The Suns came alive in the 7th, scoring 4 runs. Roberto Malinowski (Angelina College) went 2 for 5 and Alex Cornell (E. Connecticut State) was 2 for 3, with a double.
Both starters threw well in no decisions. Daredevils starter Bailey Lipscomp (Chowan University) went 5 innings, giving up no runs, on 1 hit, with 1 walk and 4 strike outs, while Suns starter Will Reynolds (Hastings College) went 8 innings, yielding 6 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned, with 3 strike outs and 4 walks.
Outer Banks Daredevils quickly matched Chesapeake Suns’ strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the ninth. The Outer Banks Daredevils scored on a sacrifice fly by Brent West (Urbanna University), before going on to load the bases in the bottom of the 10th, leading to the walk off win.
Saturday was a great day of collegiate summer baseball, featuring a pair of double headers, both splits, so the TSL and VBCBL were 2 and 2 on the day.
In the first match up of the day, the Greenbrier Knights faced off against the Chesapeake Suns for a double header at Virginia Wesleyan College. The Knights prevailed in game one, winning a nail biter 2 – 1, and the Suns took game took by a final score of 8 – 0.

Meanwhile, at Marty Miller Field, on the beautiful campus of Norfolk State University, the Tidewater Drillers split their double header with the Portsmouth Sea Monsters. The Drillers took game one by a final score of 13 – 4, and the Sea Monsters even things up as they won game 2 by a final score of 8 – 5.
Saturday, June 18th, beginning at 9:00am, the Greenbrier Knights will take on the Chesapeake Suns in a double header at Virginia Wesleyan College.

And at Norfolk State University, beginning at 11:00am, the Portsmouth Sea Monsters will battle the Tidewater Drillers in a double header.
