Hawks Falls In Back-And-Forth Affair Against Knights

July 7, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA

In the completion of the suspended games between the Knights and Hawks, who were tied at 7 going into the top of the 10th, the Knights and Hawks continued their battle, taking 11 innings to settle this one.

Hawks and Knights passed the lead back-and-forth on Saturday, but eventually Knights prevailed 9-7. The game was tied at seven with Knights batting in the top of the eleventh when Wyatt Brock walked Zachary Herring to drive in a run.

Hawks collected 11 hits and Knights had 15 in the high-scoring affair

Hawks took an early lead in the second inning. With two outs in the second inning Andrew Teixeira drove in one run when he singled.

Hawks knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the seventh inning. J Foster walked Ethan Reando with the bases loaded to drive in a run.

Knights scored five runs in the seventh inning. Knights’s big inning was driven by a single by Chris Henderson, a double by Henry Moore, and a triple by Stephen Baughan.

Trent Kochheiser earned the win for Knights. He pitched five innings, giving up five runs, nine hits, striking out two, and walking one. Two relievers helped Knights close out the victory. Chris Guilles threw four innings. Jake Ottinger took the loss for Hawks. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, surrendering two runs, six hits, striking out eight, and walking zero.

Garrett Lyons, Conner Clark, and Tyler Dodson each collected multiple hits for Hawks. Dodson, Clark, and Lyons all had two hits to lead Hawks.

Baughan, Moore, Seth Konkel, and Jay Brandt each collected multiple hits for Knights.Baughan led Knights with three hits in four at bats.

Waves Jumps Out To Early Lead In Victory Over Hawks

In the completion of the suspended game between the Waves and the Hawks from June 25, 2017, the Waves grabbed an early lead on its way to an 8-2 victory over Hawks on Sunday. Waves took the lead on a groundout in the first inning.

Waves captured the lead in the first inning. Matt Padeway grounded out, scoring one run.

Waves scored three runs in the fourth inning. Waves scored on a fielder’s choice, a double by Declan O’Malley, and a double by Colin Mattice.

Andrew Houde earned the win for Waves. He went nine innings, allowing two runs, six hits, striking out 11, and walking one. Ethan Santos took the loss for Hawks. He tossed seven innings, surrendering six runs, ten hits, and striking out four.

Waves collected 12 hits. Mattice, Ross Abrash, O’Malley, and Brandon Shirley each collected multiple hits for Waves. Mattice went 3-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with two runs batted in.

Hawks Almost Erases 6-Run Deficit In Loss To Waves

July 7, 2017 – Virginia Beach, VA

Waves built a six-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Hawks’s charge for a 9-8 victory on Friday. Hawks scored five runs in the failed comeback on a, a groundout by Conner Clark, a double by Garrett Lyons, and a single by Dalton Jackson.

An early lead helped propel Waves to victory. Waves scored on a single by Collin Porter in the first inning, a single by Brandon Kussmaul in the second inning, a stolen base in the second inning, and a single by Porter in the second inning.

Hawks captured the lead in the first inning. Garrett Lyons singled on the first pitch of the at bat in the first inning, scoring two runs.

Waves took the lead for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second Kussmaulsingled off of Ethan Santos, driving in two runs, a runner stole home, and Porter singled off of Santos, driving in one run.

Hawks scored five runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Hawks came thanks to a groundout by Conner Clark, a double by Lyons, and a single by Dalton Jackson.

Christian Rivera earned the win for Waves. He tossed five and two-thirds innings, giving up eight runs, ten hits, and striking out four. Jacob Pilarski threw one inning, as two relievers helped Waves finish off the victory. Pilarski recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Waves. Santos took the loss for Hawks. He pitched two and a third innings, giving up five runs, six hits, and striking out one.

Liam Carr started the game for Hawks. He went three innings, surrendering four runs, six hits, striking out two, and walking zero.

Waves collected 12 hits. Jonathan Lindau, Declan O’Malley, and Porter each collected multiple hits for Waves. Porter, O’Malley, and Lindau all had two hits to lead Waves. Waves tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Kussmaul led the way with two. Waves was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. O’Malley had the most chances in the field with seven.

Hawks had 12 hits in the game. Lyons, Clark, and Tyler Dodson each collected multiple hits for Hawks.

Seagulls Captures Lead Early To Defeat Pelicans

Pelicans fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-5 loss to Seagulls on Friday.Seagulls scored on a single by Grant Thompson in the first inning, a home run by Shane Gipson in the first inning, a double by Andrew Poirier in the second inning, and a single by Thompson in the second inning.

Seagulls captured the lead in the first inning. Grant Thompson singled on a 2-2 count in the first inning, scoring one run.

Connor Woods earned the win for Seagulls. He went five innings, surrendering five runs, five hits, and striking out three. Andrew Griffin threw three innings, as two relievers helped Seagullsfinish off the victory. Ean Walda took the loss for Pelicans. He tossed four innings, surrendering eight runs, five hits, and striking out four.

Nick Graham went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Pelicans in hits.

Seagulls collected 14 hits. Garrison Vick, Thompson, Derrek Marshall Jr., Shane Gipson, and Tyler Young each collected multiple hits for Seagulls.

Three Pitchers Team Up As Suns Shuts Out Sea Monsters

July 7, 2017 – Virginia Beach, Va

Suns defeated Sea Monsters 5-0 on Friday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Ben Marsico struck out Lucas Terwilliger to finish off the game.

One bright spot for Sea Monsters was a single by Ricardo Carrasco in the third inning.

Eric O’Brien earned the win for Suns. He tossed seven innings, surrendering zero runs, five hits, striking out six, and walking one. Two relievers helped Suns close out the victory. Ryan Rileythrew one inning. Tyghe Bowers took the loss for Sea Monsters. He went four innings, surrendering four runs, five hits, and walking one.

Justice Bigbie led Suns with two runs batted in. He went 2-for-3 on the day. Suns didn’t commit a single error in the field. Tyler Dean had the most chances in the field with 11.

Despite seeing its five-run lead whittled down by the end, Fightin’ Crabs still held off Knights for a 6-5 victory on Thursday. Knights scored four runs in the failed comeback on a walk by Jay Brandt, a fielder’s choice by Zachary Herring, a by Nick Lees, and a fielder’s choice by Blake Rose.

Fightin’ Crabs grabbed an early lead. Fightin’ Crabs scored on a single in the first inning and a double by Will Sheats in the second inning.

Fightin’ Crabs took an early lead in the first inning. A wild pitch by Teddy Herbert scored two runs for Fightin’ Crabs.

Fightin’ Crabs scored three runs in the sixth inning. Fightin’ Crabs scored on a single by Sheats.

Knights scored four runs in the eighth inning. Knights’s big inning was driven by a walk by Jay Brandt, a fielder’s choice by Zachary Herring, and a fielder’s choice by Blake Rose.

James Jakuba earned the win for Fightin’ Crabs. He pitched seven innings, allowing one run, six hits, and striking out four. Two relievers helped Fightin’ Crabs close out the victory. Franklin Miller threw two innings. Miller recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Fightin’ Crabs.Herbert took the loss for Knights. He went five innings, allowing three runs, four hits, and striking out two.

Fightin’ Crabs had ten hits in the game. Corey Fago, Sheats, Zachary Blaeser, and Evan Hirschbaum each collected multiple hits for Fightin’ Crabs. Hirschbaum, Blaeser, Sheats, and Fago each collected two hits to lead Fightin’ Crabs.

Knights collected eight hits. Henry Moore and Samuel Neal each collected multiple hits for Knights.

Nine Pitchers Team Up As South All Stars Shuts Out North All Stars

July 5, 2017 – Kill Devil Hills, NC

South All Stars defeated North All Stars 1-0 on Wednesday as nine pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jake Ottinger struck out Justice Bigbie to finish off the game.

The pitching was strong on both sides. hurlers for South All Stars struck out six, while North All Stars pitchers sat down nine.

A single by Justice Bigbie in the third inning was a positive for North All Stars.

Casey Lewandowski earned the win for South All Stars. He tossed one inning, allowing zero runs, zero hits, striking out one, and walking zero. Eight relievers threw one inning each and helped the South All Stars finish off the victory.

South All Star relievers included Jake Holland, Isaiah Junkins, Payton Holdsworth, Tyler Key, Ethan Santon, Tyler Barker, Ted Herbert, and Jake Ottinger, who picked up the save with his 9th inning shut out appearance.

Sam Wood took the loss for North All Stars. He threw one inning, allowing one runs, three hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

Andrew Houde started the game for North All Stars. He pitched one inning, surrendering zero runs, zero hits, and walking one.

Grant Thompson, Andrew Kasiski, Andre Marcheassault, Henry Moore, MacMillion Schoenman, and Shane Gipson all had one hit to lead South All Stars.

Bigbie went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead North All Stars in hits.

The TSL/VBCBL 2017 All Star game will be held tonight at TowneBank OBX Park, located at the First Flight Athletic Complex, 109 Veterans Dr. Kill Devil Hills, NC. 27948. Gates will open at 6:15pm, with the First Pitch at 7:00pm. Tickets will be available at the front gate.

Skydive OBX will be parachutting into the ballpark during our pregame ceremonies, and North Carolina state champion barbership quartet The Sea Notes will be in the park to honor our Country with the singing of our National Anthem.

As always, there will be great concessions, including John Powers bbq, burgers and hot dogs, plus Island Snowball Co. will be there with their ultimate snowball experience, and the Outer Banks Kiwanis Club will have Bertie County Peanuts and fresh popped Pop-Corn.

Great collegiate summer league baseball, and a great night at the ballpark for children of all ages. Family fun enjoying America’s Favorite Pasttime… BASEBALL.

An early lead helped Sea Monsters defeat Knights 4-2 on Monday. Sea Monsters scored on a single by Terrence Pinkston, a triple by Lucas Terwilliger, and a double by Hector Mosquea in the first inning.

Sea Monsters captured the lead in the first inning. Terrence Pinkston drove in one when he singled in the first inning.

Garrett Wente earned the win for Sea Monsters. He went four and a third innings, giving up two runs, seven hits, striking out three, and walking one. Pat Barrett threw three innings, as two relievers helped Sea Monsters finish off the victory. Barrett recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Sea Monsters. Jake Holland took the loss for Knights. He threw five innings, giving up four runs, nine hits, striking out ten, and walking zero.

Sea Monsters collected ten hits. Andrew Godsey, Hector Mosquea, Lucas Terwilliger, and William Oliver each collected multiple hits for Sea Monsters. Oliver, Terwilliger, Mosquea, and Godsey each collected two hits to lead Sea Monsters.
